One and all: diversity and inclusion in the workplace
At HILO, we value and celebrate diversity and inclusion 365 days a year. Connection and belonging are at the heart of our company values, and people are our most valuable assets. From our own team to our vast network of our Workplace Engagement Platform users, partners and supporters, HILO prides itself on being an inclusive community that puts people first and celebrates differences. We recognize the importance of Pride Month to show our unwavering support of the LGBTQIA+ community, as well as to encourage workplaces to foster diverse and inclusive environments.
Diversity = inclusion?
The terms diversity and inclusion get used often, and while many see them as synonymous, they actually represent two very different but interconnected concepts. Diversity is the practice of having a healthy variety of genders, races, nationalities, sexual orientations and identities represented. Inclusion takes this a step further and ensures that the contributions and perspectives of these different groups of people are equally as recognized, valued and integrated within an environment. A diverse and inclusive workplace is one that not only accepts and employs a diverse group of people, but ensures that everyone, no matter who they are, is involved and supported at all times.
Why it matters
The benefits of diversity and inclusion in the workplace have been studied extensively, and research shows that it leads to higher revenue growth, increased innovation, the ability to recruit from a more diverse talent pool and significantly higher employee retention. When employees feel that they are being treated equitably regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation or age, they are significantly more likely to look forward to going to work, have pride in their work and stay with the company.
Celebrate differences
This June for Pride Month, celebrate the differences present in your community, your organization and around the world. Encourage those around you to be their true and authentic selves, welcome open and honest conversations, and learn from each other’s unique experiences and opinions. Embrace and foster diversity and inclusion in the workplace, not just during this month but all the time, and watch your workplace thrive.
